A productive first meeting begins before anyone joins the call. CVC teams need enough context to assess relevance, involve the right colleagues and ask questions that a company overview alone cannot answer.

A specific reason to meet

The nomination should connect the portfolio company directly to the RFP. Which part of the request does it address? What can it support today, and what would require further development? A candid account of the fit gives reviewers a better starting point than a general claim that the company is innovative.

Evidence at the right depth

A short description of the product, its intended users and relevant experience can establish a basis for discussion. Distinguish demonstrated capabilities from plans. Share only information the company has approved for this audience, and identify sensitive topics that may need a confidentiality agreement before anyone explores them in greater detail.

A practical conversation brief

Clarify what the founder hopes to learn, who should attend and which decisions the discussion could inform. The appropriate participants may include a business unit or technical reviewer alongside the CVC team. A meeting request should leave space for review: a relevant nomination does not by itself establish readiness for a partnership or investment.
